How do you think angels got wings?
« on: January 25, 2010, 06:47:15 AM »
I have read in many books that angels do not really have wings. But that's how we depict them in pictures, images, and stories. How do you think we got the idea that angels are winged beings?

My guess is that it came from the idea that they travel back and forth from heaven to earth.  If heaven is somewhere "up there" how can they make the journey except with wings?

Isn't it amazing how we are conditioned? We believe wings are necessary for flight, but it is not necessarily so. We can move in our astral body and even fly without the need for wings or legs.

This is something interesting but not logical from your point of view. If any of you have heard about what HOLY QURAN says about angels. According to it angels do have wings and even the dimensions of the wings is compared. I don't know much about it but one thing is sure that it is being mentioned in it.

I wonder how buffaloes got wings. ;D  I guess the angel wing thing is another religious superstition handed down over the ages.

My friend it is upto you that whom do you think as the angels, it is in your mind that the angels have a definite physical shape. Don't think that an angel posses the shape and body of buffalo, if someone has seen them then only you can say it correctly.

Hi, I'm new here and I come from Canada so I am French but I will try to write well in English :)

When I observed what is an angel I saw this;
An ange is only a universal mechanical. It's energy and the reason why we see something like wings is because where we have a heart they have a lot of energy. Some people can see angel and they see something like wings because this energy got expansion at the heart level and it seems like wings. But if we notice that angel are not like human and they don't need wings because her don,t have a body , it's easier to figure out.

It's only my point of view of that.

There are multiple theories as to how angels got wings.

-It could be that the wings allow them to be physically superior to human beings, ranking them higher.
-It could be symbolic in that their souls are lighter and as such, can fly into the skies with the aid of wings.
-They could be seen as free beings, not bound by the material worries of human beings (i.e. common to birds)

All in all, in contemporary society it is seen that angels are beings of light with white angel wings but we can never be absolutely sure.
We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another.  ~Luciano de Crescenzo

I think it is probable that humans from judeo-christian based societies experience angels with wings because that is what we believe we will see.

i think the truth is that we perceive what we believe. this would translate across all religions and spiritual beliefs.

I agree in the idea that people had pictured angels with wings cause we believe that they come from heaven or high place. Wings surely helps them to travel. Although there is no physical evidence of it, logic helps people visualized unseen things.

Yes, there are angels who have wings. If we will read the Bible, there are 3 types of angels. The Archangel who are Gabriel, Michael and previously Lucifer before his rebellion against God, next are cherubims and Seraphims. Cherubims, known to have two wings while Seraphims have six wings. Cherubim are the one who guard God's glory while Seraphim bears God's Holiness.
