One could call Charles Manson a philosopher.

All very philosophical wouldn't you say?
I would call Manson many things, but never a philosopher. The link you provided just showed me that he was and is a blithering idiot with delusions of grandeur. He isn't stating a philosophy - he's letting loose with his stream-of-consciousness drivel.

To put Manson and Marcus in the same class would be a crime as well as a travesty, and an insult to the history of philosophy.

And yet Manson killed far less that Marcus did.

I would think that in order to live a life of true service you would have to be cognizant of the implications of your service, as in how far the tentacles of your actions reach.

I read the Peaceful Warrior books but never saw the movie. I wonder how one could truly serve as a gas-station attendant and call it spiritual progress, when you're helping to pollute the atmosphere and deplete natural resources. I also wonder how one could be a Wal-Mart greeter knowing that they work for a company that has crushed so many local businesses, pays less than survival wages and uses threats on its suppliers?

Is it a matter of choosing the lesser evil or just selling-out?

Consequences of actions. Roman emperors were conquerors and slave masters.
Namaste
