Many Buddhists do believe in Jesus. Nestorian Christians have assimilated much of Buddhism into their religion. However Indian and Tibetan Buddhists consider Jesus a great Guru and Bodhisattva (a redeemer).

practising buddhist do not. non-practising "buddhists" ie those who have decided to incorporate one or some buddhists philosophies into their belief system may well believe in christ but then incorporating the odd bit of philosophies into what they believe doesn't make them buddhist, even if they decide to use that definition.

the dalai lama himself touched on this in his book "becoming enlightened". (from page 9) [for example], i have met with some christians who take interest in certain buddhist practices, study them, and even practice them. they take particular interest in buddhist methods for achieving one-pointed meditative concentration as well as how to increase love, compassion and patience. since these are common to christianity and buddhism, i express my admiration for what they are doing. to christians, however, who have become interested in the view of emptiness, i lightheartedly respond that this is distinctively buddhist and has little connection with christian doctrine."
if all you see is 'suffering' then that is all you will feel. look for what is better in yourself and see only that.

Many people believes that Jesus spent a part of his life (before 14 years) in Tibbat to learn specific therapies and tantra from Indian saints.  Tibetan Buddhists consider Jesus as great master and follower of God.

Actually it is wrong if someone says: A Buddhist can't believe in Jesus or A Christian can't believe in Buddhist. Even we are in different religions but we are all in one purpose, that is believe in God. It just like the word: "There are many ways to Rome..".
But extremely Christian do not allow its followers to believe others cause they treat themselves as the real God followers and the others are fake ones.

I believe no one can claim that he is a real God follower. In fact, it is not something to be told for your own and to be seen by other people with themselves. God is the only one who can tell who amongst us is His real follower. What each of us can do is to just follow Him.

What a lot of people do not realize is that Buddhism is not a religion and Buddha is not a deity to worship.  It is a path towards enlightenment.  There is nothing from the original Pali scripts (Theravada) regarding Jesus because obviously in the 6th century he had not been born.

The four noble truths of Buddhism say nothing of the worship of a God,
Truth of suffering, cause of suffering, end of suffering and the truth of the path that frees us from suffering.

Most monks of authority will tell a person who is learning that you should try to incorporate Buddhism in your life.  If it works it is for you, if not, then perhaps you are not quite ready yet.

I have been a practicing lay Buddhist monk for more than forty years and if a person wants to believe in Jesus there is absolutely no problem at all.

Reading a book about about Buddhism does not make you a Buddhist!  The problem with Buddhism is the same as with most paths.  The message is simple but there are people for greed or power who will make it difficult and so form various sects for their own purposes.

Buddhists are spiritual people, and many spiritual people do believe in Jesus, even if they are not Christians. As Richard says, Buddhism is not a religion per se - it is a way of living, and, like Christianity, the basics are very simple. It's the spin that others put on aspects of religion and belief systems that complicate things.

If you believe in truth and honesty, and you try to live the best life you can, without causing harm to others or to yourself, then you are well on the path towards a spiritual life, which is something that is at the root of all belief systems.

Not sure how a Buddhist could believe in Jesus when Jesus is a figment of the Christian imagination and dogma.

If they do, would they be a Bujesus?

I don't think there's a problem with it, especially if that belief is based upon Jesus as a mortal. The dicey part is when you have people that interpret their religious texts too closely and think that, based upon their misunderstanding of other belief systems, you cannot have any other gods before The One God. They fail to realize that Buddhism isn't a religion and that they don't see God quite the same way - they'll just strike out blindly at whoever expresses interest in Buddhism.

For the more enlightened ones, however, they will see the many qualities of living a Buddhist life and attempt to incorporate those into their own practice.

there is a real story that buddhist master had never heard about Jesus.
When someone read him some lines of a bible, then he said - this is enough. He was a buddha.

Of course, but surely, it's not a matter of 'believing' in Jesus. He was a historical person, just like the Buddha. From a Buddhist point of view he is another great Bodhisattva ie one who works for the benefit of beings with wisdom and compassion.

Hi,
In Buddhism, the teacher/guru is seen as God. So, in a sense, Christianity is a subset of Buddhism, because the teacher/guru Jesus is seen as God.
