I watched the process of movement towards the ordination of women bishops in the church of england – the result was what many feared, but obviously what many (probably not the majority) supported, the rules of engagement denied the change.
The responses were very interesting:
A woman clergy member said that everyone she knew supported the ordination of women bishops, not surprising, she sounded like the kind of person that one disagreed openly with at one’s own risk.
A politically minded clergyman supported the change, it was almost possible to see the fear of decline of the church eating away at him, and this issue of women bishops was certainly corrosive.
A radio presenter interviewed in a manner that suggested somebody (presumably from the layity) should be sacked for their unreasonable attitude, and openly challenged the process of voting.
A very few stood up and supported the vote, stating their own reasons.

No one, no one asked what Jesus would have wanted, no one considered whether he would, in today’s political climate rather than the very male dominated society in which he lived, choose to make any distinction between women and men. This omission is at the heart of the church’s decline, the splendid garb that the people wear, the towering buildings each grander than the last, the very hierarchical structure are all things he spoke against, stressing only humility and ‘the way, the truth and the life’, he constantly healed others and this capacity has been forgotten by the ‘caretakers’ of the church.

What would Jesus say about the church today? I suspect a few metaphorical tables would be overturned and the metaphorical moneychangers berated.
