The Bible is not full of contradictions. It is the interpretations of the Bible by the different Christian religions that are contradicting.

The Bible is written by many authors which each has different social, economic and educational background, level of knowledge, closeness with the source of the story (for instance Jesus in the New Testament), etc. So it is natural that they may have different perspective and accuracy in telling the same events.

I would have to agree with mamabear, the Bible it is not full of contridictions , what it is are other religions and leaders and other beliefs that put the contridictions there . The way that they do it is they have their own Holy book that is made up of things that they want in it and then they say : "Well it states this in our book.." And what it is , is not the Bible it is what they want out of it . There are even alot of religions that only read certain areas of the Bible and thats not how it is suppose to be read .  You are suppose to read it all from front to back not bits and peices .

try reading the Bible and the Bible alone, don't read any other books while you're not yet done with the Bible, concentrate on what  you read, and just open your mind. i'm sure you'll discover how it all fits perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle despite the age gap and different backgrounds the authors have. so, how about giving it a try and prove me right or wrong?

I agree with mamabear that the Bible is not full of contradictions, just the interpretations that contradict one another. I also suggest what bethoven suggested, read the Bible with an open mind.

I'd say that there are quite a lot of footnotes in the bible I read that denote possible different meanings in the interpretation to English from the original language.

I've also read that Thomas wrote a scripture which wasn't canonized. Is anyone here familiar with that one, and do you have ideas on why it wasn't included?

I see many different people trying to make contradictions by the context in which they use certain passages. I do not believe the Bible itself is full of contradictory accounts.

Bible has been written ages ago and there have been many versions to it as well. Regardless of this fact, it is being interpreted in various different ways. Let us not forget that it is metaphorical and should not be interpreted in the literal way - that is one of the reasons why many think it is contradictory.

The way that I see it the Bible is a rule book or if you will more of a guide book as to how we are to live our life . I do not find the Bible a contradiction at all just how we are suppose to live our lives that is all

what i find interesting is what people seem to miss - the clues that the new testament has been "edited" by successive generations of the church.

for instance, there were more than twelve disciples. in fact christ taught small groups as he travelled, and they went from him to other towns or back to their homes. but there are only a few passages where this is mentioned. that he taught others to teach has been removed from the modern bible.
if all you see is 'suffering' then that is all you will feel. look for what is better in yourself and see only that.

Hi,

I don't think that there are any actual contradictions in the Holy bible. Jesus said himself that "there would not be any miracles for the unbeilivers."  So if your not yet convinced, you probably should't expect to see the things some of us are seeing.

Nonetheless, when there seem to apparent inconsistencies, I personally have found that I just didn't realize the full intention of what was there being said. Or I didn't see how the particular bible verse said a statement that may be true in the physical sense and also allegorical in another sense. Sometimes when we don't see the congruincy of the bible and historical reality it is also because we apply the words without knowing the intention of them exactly. I would't be so quick to say there are inconsistencies or such in the bible                                                                                    dan b
