I just thank God for the food that I'm provided with and start my meal. I don't really have a ritual or a specific prayer prior to eating. Since you asked the question, there must be a specific tradition or ritual that you use before your meal - care to share?

When I pray before I eat , I thank him for the food that he has given us and for the hands that have prepared it . And then I pray for family that is ill and for their healing . I pray for the government and the military and then finish it off by saying amen .

I love to perform a ritual practice of Hindu religion by holding my hands and give thanks to God for the food he provided me. I also kept a small piece of food aside before start eating.

We generally believes in presence of souls and ghosts in our surrounding. So, its a common practice to kept a small piece aside for them and don't eat that part.

I see that is something new that I did not know . While I do not practice in your religion that is always a good thing to know . I know that as a christian alot of people do not understand the things that I do either but it is nice to find out why people do things the way they do them

That is very interesting. Is this considered as an offering to the spirits? The part that you don't eat, how long do you keep it out for? When you clear the table, do you leave the food that is kept apart for them there? Sorry about all the questions but this practice is fascinating and I would love to know more about it.

I like to thank GOD as well as ask HIM for providing food to all of HIS creatures, may be some of the other people don't even get food. GOD may provide them food by some or the other means.

When, as today we are told that there is arsenic in rice, in fruit drinks and such, it is good to pray over your food before you eat it. I just ask that the food be purified before I eat it. Eating can be dangerous.

I sadly overlook praying before I eat quite a bit. When I do pray I simply thank the lord for the food that he has given me. My little prayer isn't as elaborate as others that I have heard, it's really rather simplistic in nature.

We try to pray as a family before our meals if we are together.  If we are eating more informally, I will try to remember to just offer up a silent prayer of thanks to God for the blessing of food when so many do not have that luxury.  We have a meal time prayer that we pray and have taught our son as well.  It is cute at two years old to listen to him offer his thanks to God.  And we try not to make it just a "canned speach" of sorts; we will talk with our children about how blessed we are to have what we have and how important it is to thank God for the food we are able to eat.

My friend is a Mormon, and it is their practice to bless the food before they eat. It's a brief prayer, but it includes the request to take away any impurities. She's been using the same blessing since she's been a member of the church, so perhaps the Mormons knew something we didn't.

I'm curious about this, too. While I understand the idea of having and "offering," I've not seen it done at every meal before. I'm also wondering what you actually -do- with it after the meal, too. Is there any special process?

I say a prayer which acts as an affirmation -

'Thank you God for this food which is a symbol of the unlimited abundance which is now available for me in every increasing avenues of good. '

Feel free to use it if it resonates with you.
