Hi,

This thread is for sharing alternative healing techniques, or methods for Social Anxiety Disorder, Social Phobia or painful shyness.

Social Anxiety can be such a painful and isolating problem, to make matters worse, people with SAD often never hear about alternative approaches that may help their problem.

Feel free to share alternative therapies, meditations, other spiritual or self-help practices, herbs or supplements that you have heard about, or experienced, as being a help in overcoming these problems.

Feel free to also personally discuss social anxiey issues here as well.  :)

OK, I'll start. I'm Owen and I struggled with Social Anxiety for many years.

**I have made a lot of progress with the help of Social Anxiety Anonymous (a 12 Step program with additional tools such as mediTation, visualization/dream work, trust-work as well as general 12-Step spirituality).

They have (completely free, since they are a nonprofit) support groups focused in providing gentle (non-pressuring) help in overcoming social anxiety disorder

This has helped me a lot. (Not 100% but I'm about 70% better which is pretty good).

I'd like to hear about other methods to help me get rid of the other 30% and also wanted to pass on the great resource above.

Any other alternative approaches, remedies, etc, that you know can help social anxiety? Feel free to post them here! :)

Hello, I have a couple of friends that also tended to e relatively depressed.  Normally my first gut instinct is to recommend energy healing.  For example the Oneness Blessing works quite well it just has the side effect of sometimes producing a spurt of more depression.  I am getting distracted, my friend used live AFA.  To be more specific they took e3live.  So, sometimes it is really just lack of good nutrition.

There really is no reason for being socially fearful.  You would be surprised at the amount of people that are not looking at you!  Do something out of the norm for you a few times and eventually you will discover that you can do most things in front of anybody.

I see what you're saying, it really isn't always that simple though. It's not always something you can simply reason your way out of from a few interactions like that. For some people I think you'd be right, but for legitimate Social Anxiety Disorder, it can be pretty tough to combat.

It is easy for people who do not suffer from Social Phobia to say, "just get over it", it is not that easy and if it were, we would all just flick that switch to "normal".

I have suffered with Social Phobia all my life. From as young as I can remember I have had it and over the years it has got much worse. I am now 30 and living with my partners family and barely going out of the house. I cannot hold a job outside as it takes so much energy to live in fear from the moment I leave the house until I get back home. Myself and my partner are living with his family as we cannot afford to move out due to me not earning any money. We are unhappy because of my constant fear and the Social Phobia.

I have been looking for years for alternative treatments to help this and am still looking. I have been to the doctors, seen mental health nurses and they all say they cannot help me. I know it is irrational to be this fearful but I cannot help it. It is ruining my life.

Someone told me about EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and he said that he has had very good outcomes of doing that with people who have Social Phobia. I have been reading up about it, and it seems worth giving a go. I have read many good accounts of it having great results with some people. It is tapping energy points in the body while saying certain things over out loud.

I am at that point in my life where I am fed up of living like this. My partner wants to move forward with our future plans and at the moment I am stopping that from happening. If I do not do something about this now and really try to conquer it then I am going to live like this forever. And that is not going to happen. I want to earn money, to have our own little house and to be happy and not have to live in constant fear.
