In times of stress does prayer help?
« on: November 01, 2009, 04:36:15 AM »
If I am agitated or stressed out, I find it helps just to pray for a few seconds. Just a quick prayer and I begin to calm down a bit and then deal with the situation. This is true for a lot of my friends also

I completely agree with you. In the times of trouble, prayer is the best remedy.

Prayer can be incorporated into a daily "thought life," in which one is in constant communication with a god. Some people pray throughout all that is happening during the day and seek guidance as the day progresses. One can pray for any issue, he wish to communicate with God in the hope that God will answer his prayers.

yup, prayer helps relieves stress. because when we pray we communicate the worries and problems that we have, its like meditating, i feel at ease afterward.  the feeling is indescribable when you talk to God your problems, your triumphs, and just about everything.

However, prayers should be done from the bottom of the heart so that atleast it should reach to the ears of GOD. If you really need some peace in your hectic schedule then you will certainly get it by the power of prayers.

Prayer changes Things - That's our favorite quotation. I always believed in prayer and for me it is a total surrender to God that you are giving all to Him. Your burden, problems, discouragement, etc. It is always a good thing to spent time in praying. Prayer is a great tool for us to be stronger spiritually. Back to you question, if prayer really help in times of our stressful life? Based on my experienced, yes it does help always. Keep on praying. God bless.

PRAYER CHANGES THINGS

Yes,prayer is powerful. Prayer can help to ease us from stress by means of meditation. The Bible said, Come unto all ye that labor and heavily laden and I will give you rest. As what other poster said, prayers cannot be done only if we are stress out. We can do it anytime, anywhere.

Pray is a powerful thing. We may think that prayers go unanswered but nothing in the world is arbitrary. Our time line is not the same as the timeline beyond, so what we may ask to happen this Friday is actually something that has been in the works for a long time and Friday is not the right time for said prayer to be answered.  Pray at any time is helpful but even more so when you are stressed. It is a way to calm your mind, to get to the heart of the matter, and put somethings into perspective for you. Perhaps you were overwhelmed because you are too close to the situation at hand. When you take a step back, relax your mind for a moment, and ask for guidance, in a way, you are guiding yourself. You slow down long enough to take a look at the situation from another point of view and hopefully when you do that, you will see that things are not as bad as they seem. It does not hurt to ask for backup!

It does to me.  Prayer allows one to take stock of the situation and hand over the stress to God, or whoever it is that one prays to.  When one prays for that purpose, the prayer has a calming effect because one is essentially demonstrating the wisdom to accept things that can't be changed. :D

I use a rosary during prayer and meditative prayer. I find that it helps me during incredibly stressful moments. It does help me focus. It also helps me when nothing else will. I am not sure if it is the prayer aspect, peaceful aspect, or just that it allows me to shut everything else out for a bit and let my mind and body work out the issue as best it can. I just know it does help me.

Absolutely.  Whenever I'm stressed, that is the first thing I do.  I take a few minutes, pray, and try to calm down by breathing slowly.  Pray will always be my go-to for tough times (and also when I am thankful).
