Asalaamu alaykum wa rahmahtullahi wa barakatuh.
The first 'argument' I wish to compile refutations to is that Muslims worship a 'Moon God' - AstaghfiruAllāh!
The biggest sin in Islām is shirk, and for us, as Muslims to worship or place trust in anything save Allāh (swt) would be commiting just that - the one unforgivable sin in Islām.
This allegation against Muslims is very odd - as it really does seem to come of nowhere.
As Muslims, we know that Allāh swt created everything. This includes the moon, the moon is not a symbol of him, it is certainly not an idol (as this would be shirk, anyway) - therefore in Islām we would be simply commiting shirk to attach the moon as an equivalent to the creator.
I will provide some verses from the Qur'ān (the perfect source) to prove:
a) Muslims cannot attach partners nor idols to Allāh (swt).
Worship Allāh and join none with Him (in worship).
[Qur'ān - Surah: An-Nisā'/Ayah: 36]
Have they (the idols) feet wherewith they walk? Or have they hands wherewith they hold? Or have they eyes wherewith they see? Or have they ears wherewith they hear? Say (O Muhammad): "Call your (so-called) partners (of Allāh) and then they plot against me, and give me no respite!
[Qur'ān - Surah: Al-A'rāf/Ayah: 195]
Do they attribute as partners to Allāh those who created nothingbut they themselves are created?
No help can they give them, nor can they help themselves.
[Qur'ān - Surah: Al-A'rāf/Ayah: 191-192]
b) Allāh (swt) has commanded us to not worship the moon.
And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate yourselves not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allāh Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.
[Qur'ān - Surah: Fussilat/Ayah: 37]
c) Allāh (swt) created the moon (among all things) and has full knowledge/control
He has subjected the Sun and Moon (to continue going round), each running (its course) for a term appointed. He manages and regulates all affairs.
[Qur'ān - Surah: Ar-Ra'd/Ayah: 2]
However, with all of that said, yes - the lunar cycle is indeed Islāmically significant, as it is used as a measure to calculate when a new month begins on the Islāmic calendar. This is accurate, in that while the months may slightly vary in number of days in the end the calendar will be a lot more true to keeping time in line with orbit. But, this is a whole nother post (insha'Allāh).
Wasalaam.
Any good that comes of this blog is from Allāh (swt), and any bad is from my own human imperfections.
http://myresourceislam.blogspot.com/2011/05/myth-muslims-worship-moon-god.htmlI just thought I'd post this in an address to Mr. Alex Wild - as he seems to believe this nonsense.
