"Moments" need help to sleep please
« on: July 12, 2009, 09:39:52 AM »
I still have a lot to learn and discover about meditation but I'm hoping people might be able to help me fast-track to techniques that might be helpful to quiet my mind at bed time, to put me into a restful sleep and to help me feel safe and secure. I wonder if I should try listening to music or do a guided meditation as I'm trying to fall asleep

Try listening to some soothing music. Empty your mind of everything and visualize a blank wall.

I always used to listen to music as a kid, because otherwise I'd scare myself and be unable to get to sleep. I would turn on a tape, and then I'd focus on the music rather than letting my mind bounce all over the place.

Another good mind-quieting thing to do is to slowly count down, in your head, from 20 to 0, consciously relaxing parts of your body with each number. Also, if you can visualize the number *without* thinking that number with your mental voice - see a "20" in your mind's eye without saying to yourself, "twenty", that helps. It's not exactly meditation, but it tends to focus the mind on something concrete, which is a great antidote to the too-active brain that makes it hard to sleep!

Meditation is good medicine to give you peaceful sleep. Before going to bed do meditation at least half an hour that will help you to relax your mind and have deep sleep. Listening good music also helps you to sleep better.

my way of doing it is just make the music flow slowely and listen to music and close your eyes so that you will increase your concentration... leave your concentration go ahead to wherever it wanted to go... but you keep on concntrating to the music that will help you in so many things

I advice you to join a Meditation class or Meditation Temple. After a regular practice you can achieve it by yourself. For a good sleep, you can try night Meditation.

I would say that reading the Bible and listening to some soft music always helps put me to sleep. If I may suggest maybe some quiet slow bag pipe music .. it helps me relax and the saxaphone helps as well . These are just my suggestions hopefully something will help you .
