Do I need a teacher to learn meditation? is yoga books and video not sufficient to do or not.? should i go to a teacher for that?
It may appear that meditation is as simple as anything. There are many helping equipments with which one may learn and practice meditation. There are also many teachers whom one can approach. Still it should be kept in mind that medication deals with human mind and tht human mind has so far remained unfathomable. Human mind has been as restless as anything. Hence it is an arena of wonderful sophistication. Any attempt to control this mind or establish hegemony over it may invite dangers. Meditation relates mind with body and thus it creates link between timeless and temporal. It is, therefore, very important to get its knowledge, both theoretical and practical, from an expert teacher of meditation. Such has been the tradition in India from the ancient days and it has so been necessarily.

See, a person can perform self-meditation and can continue with that, without any help. Yet, if you think that you should not commit any mistake and work on your meditation properly, a trainer will help you a lot. This is in the same way that a businessman always respect the advice of experts inspite of running the business successfully for years. It will always help in improvement.

a state of mind. however with that changed level of awareness how you are 'aware' of your body can also seem altered.

some claim that there are side benefits, such as reduced stress levels lead to increased general wellbeing.
I agree that Meditation is a state of mind to change your inner atmosphere to such extent where one can kept his mind aside and watch inner transformation in a spiritual way.

If you are determined, then teacher is not necessary required for it. So assess your self first and then decide what to do next.

If your aim is just to find a relaxed state of mind than teacher is not necessary but if you have one it won't do any harm. But if you want to go into advanced state of meditation, a teacher becomes a necessity to guide you through and to prevent  you from making a mistake

Not exactly, sometimes you can commit mistakes with your postures and do need some guidance regarding it, a trainer helps you to sort such routine problems. The other such problems also occur frequently and expert's advice is necessary untill you excel in it.

I think a meditation teacher can help us to discover our abilities during our meditation period. One can find a simple and effecient way to attain concentration through a good spiritual teacher.

you don't need a teacher to learn how to meditate. people go on about meditation "techniques", and i suppose if you want some guidance on how to do it that's fine, but i don't think it is necessary to find someone to train you in it before trying it yourself.

I think that you can try it yourself but you will require a trainer for better results and to avoid many small mistakes that can lead to improper benefits from meditation.
