meditation classes
« on: March 07, 2012, 05:04:24 PM »
I was wondering whether people found meditation classes to be of benefit to them or are they self taught?  I have been trying to teach myself mindful meditation but have also seen there are some meditation classes around locally which sparked my interest.  Can anyone advise?

I taught myself meditation and learned some techniques one-on-one from teachers. I've never taken a class with a group, and I'm not sure if I could do it. I have done some group meditations and found the wiggling and small noises of the other participants to be really distracting.

Learning the meditation by own is not difficult but I would suggest you to learn by classes, because they can guide you to do proper meditation and also can give you advise that what type of meditation will be suitable and affectable regarding to your health.

I basically started meditating on my own. Then, I took a class at my church that focused on meditation and journaling. I only took that class because it was a prerequisite for another class I wanted to take. The class was completely awesome. I learned different types of meditation. I learned how to incorporate meditation into a busy life.

As has already been stated here, a class is a very good place to learn the fundamentals and the variety of meditations available. Not so much for continuing practice, unless you can live with the distractions (which some certainly are able to do).

Once you have the basics down, the rest is just practice, practice, practice.
