The Effect of Music While Meditating
« on: June 28, 2011, 08:06:00 PM »
What type of effect does listening to music have while meditating? Should you meditate in complete silence, or is it okay to listen to music, in order to help you relax?

This will be different for all people i am sure. however i would say Ideally you should be meditating without music.  The essence of meditation is to learn to control thought and emotion. To develop clarity of mind and equanimity in emotion.

Music is a form of distraction that will take you awareness out of your thinking and your feelings and thus help you relax, if all you want from meditation is too relax then that would be fine.

I think it depends to the person who is meditating. There are people who tend to  more concentrated when there is a complete silence. While others could concentrate more while listening to his favorite songs or mellow music. It could vary in different types of people.
