Horned God?
« on: September 13, 2011, 09:48:16 PM »
Knowing this faith is based on nature and love then I have always wondered if the Horned God is a symbolic symbol of God and the Devil combined.  Since Wicca is the belief of no good or evil but a combined center of both it only leads me to question even more.  Is this possible or am I way off?

You are completely way off, the Horned God is Cerenunos. Or the God of the Hunt. Cerenunos has nothing to do with xtian belief systems, but has most likely been satanised due to the fact that it is an ancient and powerful God.

Many theologians say that the Christian devil was partially based on the horned gods of ancient cultures, like Pan and others. This is also why the devil is often portrayed with the cloven hoofs and goat legs of a satyr. However, the modern Wiccan and Neopagan image of a generic "Horned God" isn't much related to the Devil. Most people who worship the Horned God don't believe in the Devil.

I don’t want to speak of what I don’t know however I wanted to be illuminated with others belief so it will not bring me to misunderstanding or said something that would disregard other’s beliefs. I’m not familiar with Wicca actually. I only learned it in here in fact. What does Wiccans believe then if Wicca is the belief of no good and evil? What’s the combined center of good and evil? And isn’t horned God what pagans worship as one of their Gods?

The Ages of Zodiac, caused by the Precession of Equinoxes can explain why horns are associated with the Devil. A the time of Jesus suposed birth, 2000 years ago, the age of Aries (ram) was ending and the age of Pisces (fish, the current age) was beginning. What is one of the symbols of Jesus? Fish. It was common for new religions to vilify old gods, we can read about this in the Bible, when Moses shatters the bull statue (at that time the Age of Taurus was probably in decline). And so Christianity took the symbol of the past age, the ram's head, more precisely the horns, and associated it with the Devil. That's all there is to it. Seeing as each age lasts a bit over 2000 years, we can predict Christianity is also soon to be replaced by some other belief system. And in fact, we are observing its decline..

The next age is the age of Aquarius, by the way.
