The Threefold Rule
« on: August 08, 2012, 06:54:04 PM »
Could someone better explain the threefold rule to me? As I understand it, it works something like this; whatever energy you put into the universe, positive or negative, you will eventually get back threefold. Is that how it works? Or is it more complicated than that?

That's pretty much it, though it's a highly contested belief within the Wiccan community. Some believe it's a way to scare initiates from performing spellwork that might be harmful to another. I, personally, do not subscribe to it. To me energy is a constant. The equation balances on both sides. I do believe that we eventually "pay" for our actions. My family always has said, "You do here, you pay here." It just may not be in a way that you recognize.

I, personally, do not subscribe to it.

I'm not sure I do either. I tend to look at Karma as something that persists until we have either learned our lesson or healed the part of our mind that was producing it. For some it may be more than 3 fold. For others there may be no need for it at all.

I take a more pessimistic view of existence. Good deeds are not rewarded and bad deeds are not punished in my beliefs. A person is fully responsible for their own actions but spiritually only they can punish themselves if they feel they have done wrong. I also have a unique belief I may start a new thread on later. I believe that good and evil are pretty much the same thing and anything terrible you do to another will one day be forgiven by the person you do it to. If we do exist for all of eternity, then we also must eventually forgive every trespass against us, no matter how grievous. It would be more terrible not to, as you would go through all of eternity with a stain on your soul. So that's why I say good and evil are one and the same. Two people who spend a lifetime hunting each other to the death will one day look back and think of how silly it all was. It may take a thousand lifetimes but sooner or later no one will have any reason to be angry at anyone else.

I believe that sometimes good things happen and sometimes bad things happen.  I think a little bit of it has to do with the energy you put out there but it is also the way you handle it.  If something good happens to me then I want to try and pay it forward so that someone else who is having a bad day maybe gets a kick in the right direction.

Just be yourself and don't put other people down and see what happens...
