thinking about questions mediumship and clairvoyance
« on: July 16, 2009, 04:01:36 PM »
Before I begin this topic which has got me thinking for quite a while now may I first point out that I am not a Medium. I have psychic abilities and know that I have latent medium abilities however I just have not got round to start my training in earnest.

The following questions are predominantly aimed at my European colleagues on this site who's native language is not English. Up until recently I only ever knew of mediums being either of UK or North American origin. I am not sure that if this view was bourn out of ignorance or arrogance that the concept of mediumship was related only to western cultures who spoke English. However the internet has forced me to re-evaluate my perceptions of spirit. Up until now I knew that spirit existed but I foolishly thought that mediumship, in the concept that I understand, was limited to English speaking Western cultures. I should of realised that spirit transcends all language barriers.

All this poses very interesting and thought provoking possibilities which I had never conceived of before, namely can a medium of another culture with their own language and symbology bridge the gap of spirit and communicate with a person from another culture?

I understand that Shamen come from all cultures around the world and because the shamen travel in a world of symbology they some how manage to transcend language and have the ability of instilling their knowledge from one culture to another. How else would people such as Aborigines, Native North American, Celtic, Germanic and Asian Shamen be able to pass on their knowledge than by symbols? But are symbols universal or do they have regional variations in much the same way as language which have no meaning from one culture to another? Maybe the shaman's best form of communication is through music. The power of the drum and chanting is definitely undisputed and transcends all language barriers, wouldn't you agree? But can the same be said for symbols?

If symbols are both universal, if you believe in universal symbology explained by Carl Jung, and specific to an individual culture then is a Medium able to bridge the language barrier to help a spirit communicate with a physical person from a different culture to themselves? From m understanding, spirit communicates with the Medium by using symbology and experiences that are personal to the medium. I feel that a Medium needs to build up a broad range of "Life Experiences" for spirit to tap into in order for them to effectively communicate what ever message that Spirit is trying to convey. If that is the case then how can a spirit from a completely different culture to the Medium try to communicate to the recipient? Can a Western Medium communicate with a person from East Africa or even from an Islamic country? Mohamed was himself a profit so do Islamic people have spirit as well and can they too communicate through a Western Medium? Or are there religions and traditions that are so alien from each other that they can never bridge the gap either through symbology or the spoken word?

Questions, questions, questions. Funny thing is that this time I truly do not know how to view the issue and I would very much appreciate as many view points as possible to help me formulate a view of my own.

from my own experience for ghosts and spirits, language is no barrier. i've encountered ghost from different eras, and countries and i only know english. the same with spirits. i'm pretty sure any earth language would not be their natural speech. i guess because they communicate with thought, it doesn't matter.
if all you see is 'suffering' then that is all you will feel. look for what is better in yourself and see only that.

yeah, i agree with you. language is not a barrier, they communicate with our thoughts and through actions. they have a certain means to let us know what they want or what they would like us to know.

I have had heard of many such encounters of people with spirits but never ever thought that someone can talk with spirits. If they don't have any human body as the medium then how will they communicate?

Hi Rahman Abrar, I think bodiless ghosts can communicate with bodied people through telepathy. You don't really need only a mouth and ears to communicate. One can communicate in zillions of other ways.
